A podcast about how to get what you want…
The aligned way.

It’s getting energetically aligned with what you want.
I’m Kate Kahl—holistic kinesiologist, reiki practitioner and mindset coach—and I help women heal from the inside out: emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually through energetic alignment.
In this podcast, we explore what it really means to be in alignment—why misalignment can show up as anxiety, health issues, burnout, fertility challenges, or body image struggles—and how to gently shift that energy so your life starts flowing again.
I’ll walk you through how to get clear on your desires, dissolve self-sabotage, and finally become the version of you that actually enjoys the life you’re creating.
With or without guests, expect down-to-earth wisdom, just enough woo to get results, and zero fluff.

Exploring the Water Element
Today, we’re talking about the water element. If you missed the previous episodes, I’ve been going through the five elements, which represent five main energy types that show up in our bodies, personalities, and even body shapes. Each of us can be a unique combination of these. I’m walking you through each one, explaining what it looks like when it’s balanced, how it shows up when it’s out of balance, and how you can start working with your own energy. So, let’s get started with water.
As the name suggests, the water element is all about "going with the flow." Think of the ocean or a river—constantly flowing. But water can also be still, like a calm lake. These different types of flow give us metaphors for understanding water types. People with a strong water element are often artists, deeply creative, and intuitive. You see many healers and energy workers who have water as one of their main energy types. They connect easily to this flow, allowing things to come through in inspiring ways.
Traits of Water Element People
Water types can be philosophers or deep thinkers, often coming up with unique perspectives. They might have a “wise sage” energy even as children or display a childlike innocence, staying calm and joyful while going with the flow. Water types have a great sense of humour, too—often very funny! I have a family member who’s a water type. They can be very opinionated and sometimes lack a filter, which can come across sharply. And water types can be stubborn, which makes for some interesting dynamics.
This family member is quite wise, though. They’re also generous, calm, and so pleasant to be around when in a relaxed environment, like a beach holiday. They’re happy to be still, reading a book or a newspaper. So, you get these dualities with water types—sometimes stubborn and opinionated, other times calm and serene.
They’re also often mysterious, like they’re holding something back. Think of artists like Adele; she has this mysterious energy. Water types are unorthodox, unique, and often dramatic in their approach to life.
Challenges for Water Types
Water types value independence, which can frustrate fire and wood types who like getting things done. Water people prefer to go at their own pace, moving only when they’re in the right energy. They can be quite stubborn about this! Respect is very important to water types, and without it, they can become suspicious or paranoid. This can even make a water-type boss controlling if they’re out of balance.
In terms of appearance, water types tend to have roundness in their bodies, soft edges, strong bones, and sometimes darker facial hues. They might have thick, wavy hair—think of beach waves.
Water element people need reassurance and a sense of safety. This is why they may have struggled during events like the pandemic. Water types either went into overdrive on safety or resisted restrictions altogether. The forced confinement took away their freedom, leaving some of them with lingering anxiety or fear, as they weren’t able to process the confinement in a way that felt safe.
Body and Emotional Indicators
The main meridians for water are the bladder and kidney. The bladder holds sadness, and the kidney holds fear, which are both amplified during stressful times. The season for water is winter, a time for slowing down and conserving energy. Winter aligns with the natural endings in life—letting go, releasing what’s no longer needed, going with the flow.
The taste associated with water is salty, and the sense is hearing, so music can be incredibly healing for water types. I made a playlist called Soul Beats that has songs with good beats, not necessarily for their lyrics but for the energy they bring. I’ll put a link to it in the show notes and on my website in case you want to give it a listen.
Balancing Water Energy
To help balance the water element, you can use essential oils like jasmine (for trusting life), chamomile (for a sense of freedom), rose (for love and feminine energy), and spearmint (for invigoration). Adding sea salt to your diet, especially through high-quality flakes, is also beneficial. Foods in blue and black shades, like blueberries or wild rice, can be helpful as well.
An affirmation that resonates well with water types is: I am one with all around me. It’s great for helping you feel connected and dropping any barriers.
In terms of exercise, choose activities with flowing movements, like yoga or swimming. Swimming is particularly beneficial as it directly connects to the water element. Relaxation is essential for water types, so spend time lying on the couch or take a warm bath with Epsom salts. Music is another powerful way to reset water energy—classical music is ideal.
Physical and Emotional Signs of Imbalance
Physical signs of imbalance in water can include bladder infections, fatigue, dark under-eye circles, and cold sensitivity. Emotionally, water types can become anxious, withdrawn, overly cautious, or even suspicious. If their water element is unbalanced, they might hoard, cling to things too tightly, or have a general fear of the unknown. A balanced water type, though, will trust life and embrace a natural flow.
The Balanced Water Type
When balanced, water types are ambitious without fear. They’re easygoing, intuitive, and deeply connected to themselves. They’re great to have around for deep discussions or philosophical talks—they bring a sense of calm and depth to these conversations. They value close relationships, are gentle and trustworthy, and sensitive to their environment and to others’ emotions.
The water element represents the “being” energy, which is the feminine side of simply existing and trusting life. This is something we need more of in today’s world, especially as many of us are always in "doing" mode. Water types are incredibly loyal, valuing others and themselves, and they find fulfillment in deep connections.
Closing
I hope you enjoyed this exploration of the water element and found it helpful. If you haven’t taken the quiz to discover your primary energy type, check the link in the show notes or on my website. You can listen to previous episodes if another element resonates with you. Next week, we’ll discuss the wood element, which is all about leadership and getting things done.
Have a fantastic week, and I’ll talk to you next time. Bye!
