What is Kinesiology and How Can It Transform Your Life?

Kate Kahl Season 1 Episode 13

Ever wondered what kinesiology actually is and how it works? In this episode, I break down the magic of kinesiology—how it started, how it evolved, and why it’s such a powerful tool for shifting stagnant energy, clearing stress, and bringing the body back into balance.

I’ll walk you through the different streams of kinesiology, from working with the physical body to emotional and metaphysical healing, including chakras, meridians, and even generational trauma. Plus, I’ll share how muscle testing allows us to communicate directly with the body's wisdom to uncover hidden blocks, identify the exact remedies needed, and create profound energetic shifts.

Whether you're completely new to kinesiology or already love this work, this episode will give you a deeper understanding of how it can help you realign, release old patterns, and step into your next level of well-being.

Hey, hey! Welcome back to another episode.

Today, I thought I would talk about kinesiology—the main modality that I have been trained in when it comes to energetics. And I am a huge fan of kinesiology!

First things first—how do you even pronounce it? A lot of people ask me this. It’s kin-ee-see-ology. Kinesiology actually originated in the U.S. and was first discovered by a chiropractor, Dr. George Goodheart, in the 1960s. That form of kinesiology is now called applied kinesiology, and many chiropractors around the world use it.

Since then, kinesiology has developed into its own modality, incorporating many principles from Chinese medicine. It works with the acupressure system of the body to shift stagnant, overloaded, or blocked energy, helping to restore balance.

The Many Streams of Kinesiology

In Australia, when someone says they’re a kinesiologist, it can mean many different things. There are so many different streams of kinesiology!

  • Some focus on the physical body, working with muscles, ligaments, organs, and tendons—essentially helping reset the body on a structural level.
  • Others work with emotional and metaphysical kinesiology, like the modality I trained in with Denise Robinson. This involves working with the chakra system, meridians, auras, and even transpersonal chakras, which connect to higher realms.
  • Some kinesiologists focus on generational healing, exploring trauma passed down through the family line via epigenetics.

So, when someone tells you they are a kinesiologist, you might want to ask, What kind? Because the approach can be so different!

At Its Core—Kinesiology Clears Stress

The simplest way I explain kinesiology to people is: it clears stress from the body.

Stress can show up in different ways—physically, mentally, emotionally, or even spiritually. And when there’s too much stress, the body can’t function optimally. Symptoms can include:

  • Pain
  • Skin issues
  • Digestive problems
  • Headaches
  • Feeling stuck in old belief systems and behaviors

Kinesiology helps reset your energy and restore homeostasis, which is the body's natural state of balance.

How Does Kinesiology Work?

One of the main tools we use in kinesiology is muscle testing.

Muscle testing helps us communicate with the subconscious mind—the part of you that remembers everything, including past experiences, emotions, and patterns.

The idea is that when your body is in balance, a muscle can hold its strength when gentle pressure is applied. But if stress is present, the muscle will temporarily lose integrity and give way.

For example, if you say, My name is [your real name] and muscle test, your muscle will hold strong. But if you say, My name is Bob (and your name isn’t Bob), your muscle will weaken because your body recognizes it as untrue.

This allows us to identify what is out of alignment and what is needed to restore balance—whether that’s a flower essence, an essential oil, a crystal, or an acupressure point.

Muscle Testing in Action

When I work with clients, I muscle test quickly to find the exact remedy their body needs. And it still amazes people! They’ll often say, How did you know that?!—but the truth is, I didn’t know—your body told me!

It’s incredibly accurate, and yes, it even works in online sessions. When working remotely, I temporarily take on the client’s energetic template within my body, and muscle test on their behalf. Some people find this hard to believe, but I’ve seen it work time and time again.

Why Can’t We Always Muscle Test Ourselves?

While kinesiology is an incredible self-awareness tool, it can be hard to muscle test yourself. Why? Because we all have blind spots. Sometimes we can’t see the beliefs, fears, or emotions getting in our way.

I remember when I had my first child, I was struggling with breastfeeding. My body and mind were completely overwhelmed, and I couldn’t even muscle test myself properly. I called my kinesiologist in a panic, and over the phone—without even seeing me—she helped me shift the block. Within a week, I was breastfeeding with ease.

It was one of those moments where I knew kinesiology worked, but even I was blown away by how powerful it was.

How Kinesiology Helps You Achieve Goals

Another way kinesiology works is by aligning you with your goals.

Let’s say your goal is:
"I easily and effortlessly run a marathon in October 2025."

Kinesiology would identify everything getting in the way of that goal—whether that’s physical exhaustion, mental blocks, limiting beliefs, or past experiences of failure. Then, we clear the stress in priority order, so you can move toward your goal with more ease.

Kinesiology in Groups & Corporate Settings

This also works on a group level. When I run group alignments, the collective energy of the group creates a unique energetic “recipe.”

For example, I once did a corporate session where the team’s productivity was low. Through muscle testing, we uncovered the real underlying issue—something unspoken that everyone felt but no one had addressed. Once it was cleared, the entire dynamic of the team shifted.

Of course, this kind of work requires trust and a willingness to look at what’s really going on. But when people are open to it, the transformation is amazing.

Does Kinesiology Reveal All Your Secrets?

Some people worry that kinesiologists will be able to “see” all their deepest secrets, but that’s not how it works. Your body will only bring up what you are ready to heal.

Healing happens in layers. If a past trauma is too intense to address immediately, the body will bring up other things first—like surface-level stress—until you’re ready to go deeper.

Kinesiology vs. Other Modalities

What makes kinesiology different from other healing modalities is that:

  • We aren’t guessing what might help—we ask the body directly.
  • It doesn’t follow a one-size-fits-all approach—every session is uniquely tailored to what your energy needs.
  • It works with the body’s natural intelligence, rather than forcing change.

And unlike acupuncture, which uses needles, kinesiology shifts blocked energy using muscle testing, acupressure, and energetic remedies.

Final Thoughts

Kinesiology has changed my life, and I’ve seen it transform so many others.

If you’ve ever felt stuck, overwhelmed, or like you’re repeating the same patterns over and over, kinesiology can help shift that energy and bring you back into balance.

If you’re curious to experience it for yourself, you can book a session with me—or find a kinesiologist in your local area! And if you have any questions, send me a DM—I’d love to answer them in a future episode.

Thank you for listening, and I’ll see you next time!
